Porsche Key Cover Guide: 911, Macan, Taycan and Cayenne

The short answer: the car-shaped Porsche smart key appears across the 911, 718 Cayman and Boxster, Cayenne, Macan, Panamera and Taycan, with several body variants we label Type A, B and C. The Macan EV uses a different body again. Compare the crest position and the button layout against the fitment photo rather than going by model year.

Why Porsche keys are harder to identify than most

Most carmakers change the key shape obviously between generations. Porsche keeps the same silhouette - a miniature of the car's profile - and changes proportions, the button pad and the blade release instead. Two keys can look identical in a thumbnail and not share a cover.

The three things that actually differ:

• Where the crest sits relative to the buttons.
• The button pad - number, spacing and whether they sit flush or raised.
• The blade release - side versus bottom.

The painted key option, and what it means for covers

Porsche offers keys painted to match the car - Racing Yellow, Guards Red, Gentian Blue, Carrera White, Crayon and so on. Owners who paid for that usually do not want it hidden, which is why we make covers that leave the crest visible and, separately, painted shells for people who missed the option from the factory.

If your key is already painted, a suede cover in a matching or contrasting color tends to look better than a full shell that hides the paint entirely.

Choosing a material for a Porsche key

• Alcantara suede - the obvious match if the car has a GT steering wheel, suede seat centers or a headliner in the same material. Grey, light grey, red and orange, with a contrast-stitched Signature version.
• Sheepskin leather - softer and warmer than suede, ages rather than wears.
• Real 3K carbon - matches a carbon interior package. Rigid, so it chips rather than absorbs a drop.
• Painted shell - for color matching to bodywork.

Whatever you pick, avoid metal. A metal shell around the antenna is the one material that measurably shortens range.

The Macan EV is its own case

The electric Macan does not share the older Macan key. If your car is the EV, look specifically for a listing that names it - a cover for the petrol Macan will not fit.

What good fit looks like

• The crest is fully visible, not half covered.
• Every button presses with a clear click through the material.
• The emergency blade releases with the cover fitted.
• Edges are stitched, not glued - glued edges peel within a year in a pocket.

Common questions

Does the 992 use a different key from the 991? The body proportions changed. Rather than trust a generation number, compare your key with the type photos - that is what decides the fit.

Will a Cayenne cover fit a Macan? Sometimes, because several models share a key body. The type photo tells you; the model name does not.

Can I still use the key in the ignition slot? On cars with a twist-start slot, the cover has to clear it - check the listing, and if in doubt send us a photo.
