Porsche Macan Key Fob Cover: Which Key Does Your Macan Have?

The Macan is the car we get the most fitment questions about, and the reason is simple: it has been on sale long enough to have carried more than one key, and the newest one is different again. If you order a Macan cover by model year alone, there is a real chance of getting the wrong shape.

The car-silhouette key

Porsche's signature key: shaped like the outline of a 911 seen from above, with the crest on the front and buttons set into the body. Beautiful, and genuinely one of the nicest-looking keys any manufacturer makes - which is exactly why people are reluctant to let it get scratched.

Most Macans on the road carry a version of this key. The catch is that Porsche made small changes to it over the years, and the differences are in proportions rather than obvious features, so the fitment photo matters more here than on almost any other brand.

The Macan EV key

The electric Macan carries a different key from the combustion cars. If your Macan is the EV, do not assume a cover listed for "Macan" fits it - check that the listing names the EV specifically. We list ours separately for exactly this reason.

How to identify yours without guessing

1. Look at the outline. Is it the car-shaped key, or a squarer body?
2. Count the buttons and note where they sit - in the body, or on a separate panel?
3. Check whether the crest is a raised emblem or printed flat.

Painted, carbon or Alcantara?

Macan owners split about evenly between three:

• Painted - a hard shell sprayed in factory body colors. This is the one for owners who did not tick the colored key option when the car was ordered, and it is the closest thing to a factory look. Over twenty colors, including the ones people actually order Macans in.
• Alcantara suede - matches a suede-trimmed interior, adds grip, and is the quietest option in a pocket.
• Carbon fiber - rigid and light. If a vented version is offered for your key, take it: the vents keep the antenna area open.

One honest note

A Porsche key is not fragile. If yours is new and lives on its own in a coat pocket, you may not need a cover at all - and we would rather say that than sell you one. Where a cover earns its place is when the key shares a pocket or a bag with house keys, or when the car is a few years old and the key already has the shiny worn patches around the buttons that no polish removes.
